FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Challah FAQs, clink on link or see Challah Basics.

1. Why do I need a certifying letter if a business says they provide kosher
food/meals?
a. This is to ensure that a Rabbi has overseen the production of the food,
not just that they have said they make kosher meals.

2. Doesn't this mean that a rabbi has blessed the food?
a. No, a rabbi has not "blessed" the food, but has verified the ingredients,
process of making the food, and location where the food is made to ensure
it meets kosher standards.

3. Who keeps Kosher?
a. It is not just observant or Orthodox Jews, but Muslims, Seventh Day
Adventists, Messianic Jews, vegetarian, or lactose intolerant people to
name some groups.

4. What's the purpose of keeping Kosher?
a. When it comes to observant Jews it is because of the 613
commandments, which include dietary laws. Muslims and Seventh Day
Adventists also follow the dietary laws, with some modifications; this site is
not for that discussion. If you would like more information, please, contact
your local mosque, synagogue, or church.

5. Why does it matter if a product is Kosher?
a. For millions of people it is a concern about high quality standards,
inspection status, and/or dietary laws. Some also say the products just
taste better, of course,
we at Epicurean Delight would agree that a kosher
certified product does taste better, try us and find out.

6. Does a business have to have a license in order to make food?
a. Yes, and no, if someone is preparing food for public consumption, then
that person must have a license for health reasons, it also benefits the tax
base of the community the business resides in.

7. If you have a business license isn't that enough?
a. In the State of Florida, The Division of Hotels and Restaurants (this
includes caterers) must have food safety classes and this must be from an
approved Food Certification Manager with one of the following
organizations: www.safestaff.org, www.nrfsp.com,
www.experioronline.com.

8. What about insurance?
a. Most businesses that are concerned about the health and well-being of
their clients should have liability insurance.

9. What does a Personal Chef do?
a. Personal Chefs help to save time, instead of cooking a complete meal in
your kitchen, the personal chef will have the meals ready for you and all
you have to do is reheat them.

10. Isn't it expensive to have a Personal Chef?
a. That depends on the options you choose, if you had a chef make food
for your needs every day; that would be costly. We recommend that our
customers choose either a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule of meals
to save on cost.

11. My child is a picky eater/we have allergies/I am on a restricted diet?
a. A personal chef actually sits down with you and has you fill out a
questionnaire based on you and your families tastes, preferences, allergies,
and desires. Once this is completed a personal chef will design a menu to
reflect these needs or desires.

12. Do you offer cooking classes or demonstrations?
a. We would love to, just call and talk to us, 904-355-0789.

13. I would like to purchase a gift of Specialty Bakery items, Personal Chef
Services, or Catering?
a. Yes, depending on your needs, just call and we will be happy to assist.

14. How do you price your Personal Chef Services or Catering?
a. This varies upon your needs and time, it's best for us to discuss it.

15. When hiring a Caterer, what should I tell them?
a. It's nice to know how many people you are expecting the catered event
for. Also, if there is a budget, what that budget is, since the menu would
need to be selected to stretch your dollars to get the most for your money.

16. How much notice do I need to give a Caterer?
a. That depends on the size of your group and the type of function. Two
weeks for small affairs, one month or longer for larger functions. Sometimes
products that you want or desire are not on hand and additional time may
be needed in order to get all the supplies.

17. Why do the prices vary so much between caterers?
a. Compare the same menu, same venu, and same quality of service in
order to decide if the price seems unreasonable. For example: if you are
getting tuna fish sandwiches and your picking them up the price would be
less. If you are ordering braised brisket and delivered, then obviously, the
price is going to be higher.

18. My caterer told me I'm going to pay $5.00 a head?
a. That sounds fantastic, depending on the menu we may be able to make
something at $5.00 a head, but make sure you are getting a fully disclosed
menu whenever you cater. Also, you may want to ensure the caterer has
the proper licenses, insurance, and certification.

19. Does that mean you can't make something for $5.00 a head?
a. No, not at all, the menu and amount of people is going to be the largest
determining factor for the cost of the food, but keep in mind the more food
you need and the more people, the staffing needs may go up.

20. I would like to have servers?
a. Epicurean Delight is happy to provide servers at your request. We have
agreements with contracting agencies that make sure the employees are
certified and that Worker's Comp is provided in case there are any
accidents.
